At BoxTales (“we”, “us”, or “our”), we take your privacy extremely seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. BoxTales is operated from India and this policy complies with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA) and applicable Indian laws.
Our Privacy-First Commitment
BoxTales devices contain no microphone, no camera, and no screen. We do not listen to, watch, record, or track users of our hardware devices. We collect zero data from children using BoxTales devices. All audio playback happens locally on the device with no data sent to our servers.
Information We Collect
1. Order and Account Information
When you place a pre-order or create an account, we collect:
- Full name
- Email address
- Shipping address
- Phone number (for delivery coordination)
- Payment information (processed securely by our payment gateway; we do not store card details)
2. Cultural Archive App Data
When you use the Cultural Archive App, we may collect:
- Audio recordings you voluntarily create and upload
- Story metadata (title, language, region tags) you provide
- App usage analytics (anonymised) to improve the experience
Audio recordings in your Family Vault are private by default and only shared with users you explicitly authorise. Recordings submitted to the Community Library are reviewed and made available publicly under the terms you agree to at submission.
3. Device Data
BoxTales hardware devices do not transmit personal data. When connected to Wi-Fi for content syncing, the device communicates only with our servers to download new audio content. No usage data, listening habits, or personal information is transmitted from the device.
4. Website Data
Our website may use cookies and analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand traffic patterns and improve user experience. This data is anonymised and does not identify individual users.
Children's Privacy
BoxTales is designed for use by children, and we take their privacy with the utmost seriousness:
- The BoxTales device collects no data from children
- The device has no microphone, camera, or screen
- Children do not create accounts or provide personal information
- The Cultural Archive App is intended for use by parents and adult family members only
- We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 18
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely for:
- Processing and fulfilling your orders
- Communicating order status and shipping updates
- Providing customer support
- Delivering content to your BoxTales device via the app
- Improving our products and services
- Sending product updates and announcements (with your consent)
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on secure servers with industry-standard encryption. Payment processing is handled by PCI-DSS compliant payment gateways. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Your Rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your personal data
